Dear parents  of La Chatelaine,
These are extremely difficult times for running a school There is an indescribable cloud of fear in the atmosphere and an undercurrent of disquiet in the minds of the parents. The parents send the children to school  with apprehension and the school receives them with a silent prayer.
It is bizarre thought! But managing a school has a close resemblance to operating the Koodankulam Nuclear plant. Both are in constant media glare for the wrong reasons ; the first mistake you make in either of them will be your last mistake . In both of them you handle tricky, unpredicatable volatile material Uranium in Koodankulam; children in school. At the drop of a hat, people throng Koodangulam forcing a shut down and a small rumour would bring the parents and rabble rousers to the school gates baying for blood. But both Koodankulams and the schools are vital for our society. The people of this state cannot have any meaningful existence without either of  them.
What went wrong? Just a few months back every thing was so normal,so quiet, smiles in the face of parents and peels of laughter from the throats of the children.! Then!
One  cute kid fell through a hole in the van floor, another fell down the stairs , a petty fight in the playground took away the life of a child and a swimming session ended in tragedy for another. All these misfortunes at schools caught the attention of Television and Print media and got a saturation cover. The law enforcement  machinery went for the jugular arresting the top management of schools involved. When all these calamitous evvents occur within a short period of time it is but natural fear’s grip becomes chocking. The parents fear for their childrens’ safety and school management fears for their liberty and dignity.
How to get out of this conundrum of suspicion and self doubt?
TRUST! Parents’ Trust in the teachers and the school and honesty and sincerity with which the trusteeship is executed by the School. FAITH ! parents’ faith in the institution, their belief that the  school  staff will never do harm to their children. Sickness, accidents and misfortunes happen. They happen at home ,out on the streets and also at schools. The best anyone can do is to eliminate hazards, remove envisageable risks and exercise maximum vigilance, If this realization in not there in the parent community and they want arrest of the school head for any mishap ,the consequences are entirely predictable.
No physical Education or games because it is physically impossible to watch over children every minute in  a playground . After all it will take a few seconds for  a child to get hurt or a fight to develop and any number of PETS you have in the ground cannot  prevent it.
No airconditioners in the class rooms since there is always a possibility of short circuit and fire .Even when we have fire fighting equipment in place the very fact fire was seen will make the parents panic.
No  excursions or external competitions, as when we take the children out we do not know what problems will confront us. No teacher will agree to take the children out as the teacher will be held responsible for no fault of hers.
No school  provided transportation, for fear of arrest even in cases of accidents that are caused by some drunken driver orf bad roads.
No serving of lunch, to the children as it is possible that some parent may blame the school for a child’s bad stomach and have us arrested for food poisoning.
No stay over facility or games coaching, as no staff will want to run these departments because they might be detained. The School Doctor will be scared to treat our children as he might be charged for incompetence.
So we have to know from the parents. Do you have complete faith in your school and will desist from blaming it without enquiry if any mishap occurs?
If your answer is “YES” we will manage the school as it has been managed during the last  43 years, provide all facilities as hitherto though there is  a minuscule element of risk in all of them
If not, we will limit ourselves to academics and all other activities as games lunch, transport and all such even remotely risky events will be given up. After all  none in the school want to take chances and everyone values  their dignity and liberty.
The course your school takes is to be decided by you. We would follow your collective advice.
With regards
Faithfully yours
Managing Trustee

Appreciate the way the school is run; the lesser fees, more facilities, no books, no bags to name a few.

Please continue your good work.

my comment has been removed..quite clearly the school still runs on totalitarianism. nothing much has changed. you will remove this again no doubt because the school still believes in stifling any voice..although mere common sense, the law of averages and probability will make this page look quite dodgy for the more observant reader because all the opinions cannot be a 100 percent for the school.

I wanted to share a feedback on one of the bitter experience with the esteemed La Chatelaine school.

My father (aged around 60 years) and my mother (aged around 56 years) went to La Chatelaine school on Monday (23rd Sep 2013) to inquire about the admission for my son (their grandson) whose date of birth is 5th April 2011.

In the reception there was a person who attended my parents with utmost disinterest (he is a employee of your school, not sure what his name is).

My dad just wanted to know when will the admission form for Pre KG be given and whether my son is eligible to be admitted to the school in the coming year.

Ideally, the employee from your school should have attend the guests in a respectful manner (at least some consideration to their age is desired) and listened to their questions carefully and then answered politely. But he did not do any of these things.

When my father tried to give him my son's birth certificate to see if my son age falls under the eligibility criteria,

He said, "what happened, what should i do with this?", "Why should i check this, you check and see"
"Your son is not at all eligible for admission in our school?"

I heard a lot about La Chatelaine's reputation in my company (Hewlett-Packard) and hence decided this would be the best school for my son, but the impression that this employee gave to us was very shocking, how can some one in the CRM section (Customer relations management) be so rude to any guests. If this is how my son will also learn to treat elders, then i would better stay away from this school. Sorry, if my statements hurt you in any manner, but this is what my parents told. My parents are totally under mental disturbance due to this behaviour of that person.

My suggestion would be to warn the employee for what he did on Monday and remove him from guests attending section and put him in House keeping or something else, as he just deserves those duties.

Please excuse me for any hurting statements if I made any in this e-mail. I was just concerned about my parents dignity and the school's reputation, because still somewhere in the corner of my mind i am willing to admit my son in this school.

This is reply to hte post saying "rude behaviour at reception". This is not only a problem of la chatlaine, but also the whole society. if we were to remove such people from their jobs, hardly 1 % of population would survive, even in our own HP. details must be available in website. first of all, dont send your parents out to enquire anywhere, the whole society is filled with such things. You as a father must take time offff from ur busy schedule to do it, it is your duty. best of luck.

Mr.koushik I think you are the person who must been in the reception because your reply sounds alike. I am a former student of the heavenly school LC I just loved my school for what it was and for what it is,but in a blog we just cant expect only buttery comments we should even welcome bitter comments to build ourselves. No one is expecting anyone to get kicked off rather a better response.I am sure my school is capable of training its staff and it will better its performance even in customer relationship.and every one cares for their kids in their family so it doesn't matter who comes for admission.

My dear parents my school is an incomparable heaven for any kind of student so step forward for your child's better future
Thank you
